Mission and Objectives of the
National Commission on Corporate Governance
The National Commission on Corporate Governance (the Commission) was established to promote the implementation of good corporate governance practices and to develop the Bulgarian National Code for Corporate Governance (BNCGC or the Code)
About the NCGC
The Commission is a permanent, independent body established on September 3, 2009, under the supervision of the Bulgarian Stock Exchange (BSE) and the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC), with the support of the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). Since 2014, the Commission has operated as a non-profit legal entity acting in the public interest.
Mission
The mission of the Commission is to encourage the adoption of good corporate governance practices to help companies attract capital and improve their market performance.
Objectives
The main objectives of the Commission, as outlined in its statutes, include:
Promoting good corporate governance practices;
Monitoring the implementation of the Bulgarian National Code for Corporate Governance;
Reviewing the Code every 18 months or initiating changes when necessary;
Developing mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of the Code;
Following and incorporating guidance on corporate governance development at national and international levels;
Preparing recommendations for regulators to improve corporate governance;
Developing and presenting best practice guidelines in specific areas of corporate governance;
Annually preparing and publishing an assessment of the state of corporate governance in the country;
